NUCLEAR ICEBREAKER

50 YEARS OF VICTORY

Ortelius

She is the largest, most sophisticated, and powerful icebreaker ever constructed. Twenty years in the making, 50 Years of Victory is the first Arktika-class icebreaker to have a spoon-shaped bow. Boosting the efficiency is the all-new automated digital control system. The ship, designed with a stainless steel ice belt 5 meters (18 feet) wide, breaks through ice up to 2.5 meters (9.2 feet) thick. The icebreaker is driven by 2 nuclear reactors that produce 75,000 horsepower. In open water, top speed can be as much as 21.4 knots.

NUCLEAR POWER

The 50 Years of Victory's two nuclear reactors are encased in 160 tons of steel, high density concrete and water. The system's double vacuum stills produce five tons of fresh water per hour. The reactors direct steam to two turbines, which in turn power six generators driving three massive propellers, each with four seven-ton blades. The Yamal's high-efficiency propulsion system meets all international environmental and safety standards.

Superb cuisine

Qualified chefs prepare a variety of international cuisine and experienced waitresses attend your needs. The bar has a large supply of alcoholic and soft beverages.

Unique excursions

Programs are developed in order to show as much as possible information about Arctic regions and the areas we visit. The lecturers will deliver lectures and answer all the questions. Landings are carried out by helicopter. The qualified Expedition Staff, the experienced Captain and the Crew will do everything to make your voyage safe and unforgettable.

What makes the ship most unique is it’s spoon-shaped bow and has a bar, a lounge, a library, an indoor pool, two saunas and a fitness center. The Aft Saloon converts from a presentation room during the day to a dance floor in the evening. The ship has a stainless steel 18 foot ice belt that breaks through ice up to 9.2 feet thick.
